Selecting rifles for pheasants’ hunting

In general, start with choosing a double-barreled gun  …. “Why it should be a double-barreled gun?”, – you may ask me.  Why can’t we use for pheasants’ hunting simple  870 Rem or 500 Mossberg? Nothing wrong, they all good, but hunting for pheasant is still the old Europe style: mug of ale, green leggings and a feather on the hat. Well, in any case it is not an American ducks’ massacre  by magnums or Russian – goose hunting from a semi-automatic artillery. And this is not the only drawback semiautomatic. But if you all are interested in semi-automatic, so let’s have a look at some of the models:

dvutvolka

Remington 870 – heavy, robust, steel receiver. Qualityis not bad compareing  to other American onse . Good variant made by Synthetic Combo.

Mossberg 500 or Maverick 88: budget, lighter than the previous one, large toleranced, quality is pretty average.

Beretta, for example, Urika – higher quality, price, class, omnivore, reliable, excellent gun in all respects.

Models of other Italian company Benelli have an interesting inertial system of recharge, which theoretically means more compared to traditional, “Vapor” guns reliability, in practice, the current models of rifles and carbines with the gas system do not have any problems with reliability (even Browning Bar with it’s compicated device and lots of small details), and numerous clones smooth Kalashnikov’s even more.

Lets talk about more suitable for pheasants’ hunting  shotguns. Advantages of shotguns  include reliability (at least based on the availability of 2 Triggers (firearms)), the ability to have different chokes “in one bottle” and simultaneously apply different numbers of fractions. Also, pheasant`s gun, as any gun for hunting for birds hunting, requires one important point: the right balance of weapons, and multiply charged and design features semi-automatic and pump action shotgun plays a negative role. In contrast to the shotgun, that has been improving in centuries.

There is a perception among hunters that the “correct” gun must have a center of gravity in fracture. In more academic approach it situated in 60-70 cm from the edge. The gun with the center of gravity shifted to the outlet tends to underestimate when you throw it up, as well as poorly controlled on purpose. Accordingly, with the balance “in the butt”, when you threw gun up it jumps too activity and can be set too high. The adjustment takes time ( less than a second, but it is enough to miss).

When you choosing a  gun, your special attention should be paid to handiness ( when you threw gun up it must fall in one line front sight and rib with an eye of hunter, that means matching the geometric characteristics of the lodge and the geometric characteristics of your butt. Its necessarily to hold in your hand each gun that you are choosing from.

If you want to choose the Soviet gun as your first one (or post-Soviet) you should take into account that IZH always go with a slightly longer barrel than the TOZ and they are a bit heavier due to the trunks and massive  boxes. The most common model is IZH-27. TOZ, for example, TOZ-34, in this sense to hunt for pheasant would be good if it were not for them unintelligible trigger device when you do not know whether you still overcome the resistance of the ejector, or have you break the thing called “cheeks”.

Guns MTZ – 106 and 108 models are at a higher stage of evolution. They have a resource that  is striving for performance sporting guns: low weight and the ability to safely withstand gunfire reinforced cartridges.  Frame lock, trunks, receiver are made from high and specially heat-treated steel, and with a  weight little over 3 kg, the reliability of these guns is high, and can be regarded as the crown of creation of the Soviet gunsmiths in the smooth-bore hunting weapons.
